The Kewen Period 1859-1879


Colonel E.J.C. Kewen, Lawyer and Orator was the first Attorney-General of California after a colorful past as a Confederate officer.


Kewen and Family on the Southern style portico he erected on the East side of the Mill.


Kewen added various outbuildings. Water from the Mill flowed to the lake in the distance now San Marino's attractive Lacy Park.


Gutzon Borglum, sculptor of Mt. Rushmore and his wife on the north side of the Mill, late 19th century.
